On Friday night the Cats traveled to Maxwell to face the Wildcats. The Lady Cats were primed and ready for the epic battle of the Wildcats, and the first quarter ended with Wallace leading, 12 to nine.
In the second quarter Wallace continued to battle. They began to build momentum, and managed to outscore the home team by five. Wallace headed into the locker room at the half, ahead by eight, 27 to 19.
During the half, the Wallace Lady Cats seemed to get a real boost from their coaches, but Maxwell wanted to defend their home court. The Lady Cats played hard, but Maxwell outscored them eight to six. At the end of the third quarter the Lady Cats still maintained a six point lead, but Maxwell was trying to mount a rally, 33 to 27.
The Cats were ready for the fourth quarter, energized, and ready to win. The energy enabled the Wallace Wildcats to strengthen their lead, outscoring Maxwell by nine. The fourth quarter ended, and the Wallace Wildcats got their first “W” for the season, 51 to 36.
Offensively, senior Anna Griffiths led the Cats with 17 points, followed by sophomore Christina Daniels with 12 points. Seniors Katelyn Melton scored seven points, senior Chelsea Sowle had six points, junior Sara Hubbard had four points, junior Alex Lundvall had three points, and freshman Sarah Banks had two points.
Leading the team with offensive rebounds were Griffiths (eight), Melton (three), Sowle (two), Hubbard (two), and Daniels (two).

Defensively, Melton led the Cats with six rebounds, three blocks, and one steal, followed closely by Griffiths with six rebounds, one block, and two steals, and Daniels with five rebounds, one block, and three steals. Sowle had three rebounds and one block, Hubbard had one rebound and two steals, sophomore Hayley Storm had two steals, sophomore Morgan Messersmith had one rebound and one steal, and Banks had one rebound.
The Lady Cats will travel to Sutherland on Thursday, Dec. 13, with varsity starting at 5:30 p.m., and junior varsity at 7:30 p.m. The girls and boys are playing simultaneously.
