Local VFW earns state recognition PDF Print E-mail

The Keith County VFW Post  3755 Color Guard was recognized for the fourth year in a row at the Nebraska State Fair by being chosen to serve as the lead color guard for the State Fair Veterans Day Program.
The Color Guard was the last to present while the fair was still held at Lincoln, and has presented at the state fair at Grand Island since its relocation.
Out of the 149 posts in the state, Post 3755 was named one of the top 11 as an all-state post for the last four years. The post was selected to serve as the 2009-10 Department of Nebraska VFW State Color Guard by then State Cmdr. Roger Broker and was selected to serve again in 2011-12 by the current State Cmdr. Dave Baron.
Post Cmdr. Gary E. Bush Sr. was selected to serve as the department of Nebraska VFW sergeant at arms those same years.
Bush has been the commander for the local VFW post for eight years.
The Color Guard makes 30 to 36 appearances during the year. The next appearance is slated for 7 p.m. Sept. 28 at Ogallala for the presentation of the colors prior to the varsity football game versus Chadron.
