Shari Friedel Tribune Staff Lady Plainsmen golfers showed improvement in their second meet of the season held Thursday, Aug. 30 at Creek Valley. As a team, the Plainsmen finished in seventh place with a score of 508. None of the Lady Plainsmen managed to finish in the top ten, but are becoming more consistent in scoring from hole to hole, and earning more pars and bogies, said Head Coach Troy Kemling. “Putting and chipping are still a challenge and a source of extra strokes for all our girls’ scorecards,” Kemling said. “We gave away too many strokes to the field this way and it showed up in team standings.” Plainsmen golfer Carra Johnson placed in the top 15 with a score of 110. “Carra impressed me with her consistent ball striking,” Kemling said. “She did let a few holes on the back nine get away from her but finished well on the last couple.” Experiencing a rough introduction to tournament play was newcomer freshman Natasha Thomas who injured her shoulder on the first nine holes. Bridgeport was first place with a team score of 385. Four Bridgeport players received medals for first, fifth, sixth and seventh places individually. Ogallala JV was second with 459 points and Creek Valley third with 470 points. Other teams and their scores were Dundy County/Stratton who scored 472; Mitchell 477; Hershey 504; and Bayard 522.
