Rev. Brockopp dies in accident
One Year Ago June 30, 2011 After nearly five years of being closed and under repair, the Perkins County Museum is preparing for its re-opening and dedication ceremony. The open house was to begin on the Fourth of July at 10 a.m. with the dedication ceremony, to which, everyone was invited. Thereafter, guests were invited to tour the museum and the county’s history held inside. Ten Years Ago June 27, 2002 The Grant Tribune Sentinel was celebrating 25 years with Johnson Publications. Loral and Elna Johnson bought the paper from Al Fillingham in 1977.Johnsons Publications in Imperial, now prints four papers: The Grant Tribune Sentinel, The Imperial Republican, The Wauneta Breeze and the Holyoke Enterprise. Twenty-five Years Ago July 1, 1987 Robert Napierkowski, former Perkins County sheriff was charged with eight felony counts in Colorado. Napierkowski who served as Perkins County Deputy Sheriff from April 1981, through January 1983, was arrested by Arapahoe County Sheriff’s department for two counts of theft by receiving stolen goods, and six counts of violation of the gold and silver act. Fifty Years Ago June 28, 1962 Rev. Walter Brockopp, of Trinity Lutheran Church died in Haxtun Colo. enroute to a Denver hospital. He was being transferred from Perkins County Community Hospital. His death was attributed to bronchial pneumonia resulting from chest injuries he received four days prior in a two-car accident on Central Ave in Grant.
