Firefighters from three area volunteer departments were on the scene about two hours last Wednesday, May 30, fighting a pasture grass fire in northeast Chase County.
The fire started in the Imperial Volunteer Fire Department (IVFD) district on land owned by Dean Mitchell of Imperial after lightning strikes mid-morning last Wednesday.
The fire burned north into ground owned by George Lee, eventually burning a total of 43 acres of hilly pasture land.
Imperial Fire Chief Nick Schultz said the fire departments from Madrid and Grant were called in on mutual aid to help with water supplies.
Nine fire units fought the blaze from the three departments.
Fire Chief Schultz reminds area residents that conditions are again very dry in the area and to take extra precaution in situations where fires might result.
