Tri-County traveled to Chadron on Saturday April 14 for the West Region Special Olympics Nebraska track meet.
Two local athletes came home with ribbons—Kelan Sis of Elsie received second place blue ribbons for softball and the 4x100 relay and a red ribbon in the 100m dash. Kevin Tickle of Grant received blue ribbons in the 50m dash and shot put.
There were teams from Alliance, Chadron, Harrison, Scottsbluff County, and Tri-County.
Colors were presented by Chadron Cub Scout Pack 206. Jason Gieschen from Tri-County sang the National Anthem. Russell Moore led the athletes in the Special Olympics Oath, “Let me win, but if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt.”
Athletes competed in track and field events including, running, long jump, shot put, turbo javelin, tennis and softball throw, 50, 100, 200, 400 meter walks and runs, and relays and 25 meter and 30 meter wheelchair events.
All of the Tri-County athletes qualified in all of their events for the State Summer Games which will be held in Omaha. Athletes must finish in first, second, or third in their event in order to advance to the state level.
Creighton University will house the athletes for Special Olympics Nebraska May 16-19. Events will be held at various locations in Omaha including Creighton University, Skate Land, Ameritrade Center, Northwest High School, Kroc Center, and Common Ground.
