True inner beauty

By Father Mark Pfeiffer

It is amazing the extent men and women will go to to appear beautiful. Beauty is a major industry.
We notice quite a number of women who appear exceptionally attractive. Then getting further acquainted, find them lacking.
We have heard the wisdom, “There are girls you date...and girls you marry.”
Contemporary society accentuates lovely hair, shining teeth, eyes and clothing, promoting a popular description of what beauty entails. Every once in awhile you meet a woman who has an exceptional persona, words cannot adequately express. She’s just “got it.”
God has His defining points describing His point upon beauty. 1Pt. 3:2 This is a description of purity and reverence inside, “Your beauty should not come from outward adornment. Instead it should be found in your inner self; the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which has tremendous value in God’s eyes.”
Another passage parallels this. Proverbs 31 “Charm is deceitful and beauty is fleeting, but the woman who fears the Lord will be praised.” Every once in awhile we cross paths with a woman who has a loving heart—devoting her heart to pleasing God more than popularity. It shows.
There is a glow, a freshness, a radiance shining from within made evident for us to see. She is enlivened from the inner beauty found in her soul, her heart-of-hearts. This is the beauty which lasts over time.
The inner beauty comes from time spent with God, dedicating ourselves over to God. All generating a purity, an innocence God may create within us. Those seeking the world’s ways develop a hardness tied in with using and being used. The glow coming from reverence is seen in a woman who devotes her day in the presence of our all loving God.
Whatever you have been in your past, we can begin anew developing a beauty treatment reaching into the life of the soul, our inner beauty. Allow Christ to do a makeover. He is exceptional at shaping us into His loving likeness. Allow Christ’s captivating light to come through you. You will become exceptional, because you allow Christ’s light to shine from the inside of you.
