Intensity builds as Lady Cats face week two PDF Print E-mail

On Friday night the Cats played host to the Maxwell Wildcats. The Lady Cats were primed and ready for the epic battle of the Wildcats, but first quarter ended with Wallace trailing 9 to 21.
In the second quarter Wallace battled back. They began to build momentum, and managed to outscore Maxwell by two. Wallace headed into the locker room at the half, trailing 29 to 39.
The Lady Cats started the second half energized, but Maxwell played tough and refused to relinquish the lead. The third quarter ended 39 to 52.
Unfortunately, for Wallace, Maxwell was simply unwilling to yield. As the buzzer sounded the Wallace Lady Cats lost, 46 to 63
Offensively, senior Brooke Hochstetler led the Cats with 15 points, followed by freshman Christina Daniels and junior Anna Griffiths each with eight points. Junior Chelsea Sowle had six points, senior Emily Hasenauer had five points, and senior Danica Messersmith had four points.
Defensively, Hochstetler led the Cats with 10 rebounds, followed by Daniels with five rebounds.
Wallace vs

Saturday, the Lady Cats traveled to face the Broncos of Wauneta-Palisade. The Ladies started out slowly, trailing the Broncos in the first quarter 15 to 19. In the second quarter, the girls struggled to build any momentum, and as the buzzer sounded for the half, the Lady Cats headed into the locker room trailing 22 to 40.
Half time, unfortunately, saw a new spark for the Lady Broncos. They out scored the Cats in the third quarter by four, strengthening their lead to 29 to 51. In the fourth quarter, the buzzer sounded to close the game in a loss for the Lady Cats 35 to 68.
Hochstetler led the Cats with 11 points, followed closely by Daniels with 10 points. Sowle had six points, and Hasenauer and K. Hubbard each had four points.
Defensively, Hochstetler led the Cats with 11 rebounds, followed by Daniels with seven rebounds. Hasenauer had two rebounds, and Sowle had one rebound.
“We need to be ready to compete from the tip,” said Coach Koop. “We came out flat in both games. We have to help ourselves out and make the easy shot inside.”

The Lady Cats will face Sutherland this Thursday, (tonight) Dec. 15 at home, with girls varsity starting at 5:30 p.m.
