One Year Ago October 7, 2010 Perkins County Schools received emergency kits from the Southwest Nebraska Public Health Department. Sheriff Brueggeman graduated from the National Sheriff’s Institute. The hospital received a new bone density scanner. Ten Years Ago September 27, 2001 Wallace schools planned to begin an addition set to begin in April of 2002. The addition would add much needed space for the students and new technology. Twenty-five Years Ago September 17, 1986 A grain car full of grain derailed near Grant and overturned. A formal investigation was put in place to find the cause. Venango ended a two year long 13-game losing streak with a 31-13 win over their rival school Arthur. A CCD teaching workshop was held for the teachers at Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church. Fifty Years Ago September 28, 1961 A heavy frost fell over the area. After .83 of rain, the frost left heavy layers of ice on standing water bowls and nipped the unprotected plants. Bullock Chevrolet-Oldsmobile was broken into and robbed. A Polaroid camera, three transistor radios and money from the Coke machine were stolen. Seventy-Five Years Ago September 24, 1936 Perkins County High School opened up the football season with free admission to the season opening game. Farmers who have large flocks of poultry were urged to tattoo their bird to aid in the prevention of stealing birds. A new line of felt based floor coverings will be arriving soon at Lyon’s Store.
