Nearly 20 members of the South Platte United Chambers of Commerce (SPUCC) gathered in Grant last week—some of those members traveling halfway across the state.
Perkins County joined SPUCC in October 2010, and as recent host of the advocacy group, was able to show and tell members about some of the amentities offered in the community.
Members come together to network, socialize and get an update on activities taking place within the organization and within communities that are part of the united group.
Perkins County Chamber President Bernie Deaver and Vice President Ted Tietjen greeted the SPUCC members at Grant Family Restaurant where a financial report and recap of a recent survey were given by SPUCC President Rex Nelson. Nelson was also representing McCook Economic Development.
The group then stopped at the Meadowlark Art Gallery on their way to social hour at DJ’s Bar and Grill.
Returning to Grant Family Restaurant, the group dined and listened to a presentation by Deaver of happenings within the Perkins County Chamber organization and history of economic development. Elsie Farmer/rancher Steve Hanson, who represents District 6 of the Nebraska Beef Council, gave a talk on animal care.
Members present and the communities they represented included: Leslie Carholm, Imperial Economic Development; Rex Nelson, McCook Economic Development, and SPUCC President; Jason Grigg, district manager of Great Plains Communications, McCook; Weldon Sleight, Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture, Curtis; Scott Mickelsen, Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture, Curtis; John S. Wilkinson, CEO Curtis State Bank; Merrill Duntz, South Central Public Power District, Nelson; Tim Anderson, Holdrege; Dena R. Beck, REAP business specialist Minden; Doug and Rosella Zueullner, Campbell; Sharon Hueftle, South Central Economic Development District, Betty Sayers and Nancy Herhahn, Nebraska Rural Living; Angus Gary; Brandon Wood, Great Plains Communications; Jessie Faber, City of Grant and Perkins County Chamber.
The next gathering for SPUCC will be held in Minden during November.
