By Shari Friedel Tribune Staff Perkins County golfers attended the Kimball and Ogallala invites on Friday, Sept. 16 and Monday, Sept. 19. Friday’s match had been rescheduled from Thursday due to inclement weather, and due to conflicts several of the girls were unable to attend. By Friday the weather had lifted and warmed up enough for a great day for golf. In team placings, Kimball was first with 445, Mitchell second with 484, Bridgeport third with 559 and Creek Valley fourth with 577. Perkins County and Garden County had no score. Senior Janet Kuskie finished in second with a score of 102 (52-50). “Janet showed improvement today in chipping, but her ball striking was not as sharp as it had been,” said Coach Troy Kemling. “The Kimball greens always present a challenge to us.” Underclassmen Hailey Slet-ten and Rachel Carrig enjoyed their first outing on the Kimball course, said Kemling. “Rachel completed her first 18-hole event today, finishing tired but relieved,” he said. “Any new experience will help these girls as they continue to develop their games,” said Kemling. Ogallala Invite A warm day with no wind made for optimum golfing conditions on Monday as the girls attended the Ogallala Invite. The Plainsmen finished in fifth place in Division II with a score of 498. They followed Kimball (445), Ogallala JV (448), Dundy County-Stratton (454) and Hershey (464) in team placings. Janet Kuskie was again second in individual placings with a score of 97 (44-53). “Janet executed her game at some of the highest levels I have seen,” said Coach Kemling. “All parts of her game were working early on, but then she encountered thick rough on the back nine that she got caught up in, stumbling on three holes. However, she did keep her poise.” Shania Stickley carded her all-time low score at 125, hitting the ball consistently. Kemling plans to continue to work on reading the lines and speed on the greens.
