The Lady Plainsmen opened the 2011 season with a confidence-building win in three sets against the North Platte St. Pat’s Lady Irish on Thursday, Sept. 1. Scores were 25-23, 25-23 and 25-17.
“It’s always good to start the season off with a win,” said Head Coach Penny Hite. “The girls played smart tonight, didn’t try to overpower St. Pat’s. St. Pat’s is always tough and we needed them to gauge our strengths and weaknesses.”
Putting some good numbers on the books were the Metcalf sisters, Tanya and Shania, who had seven and 11 kills, and eight and three blocks, respectively.
Senior libero Kristin Beck had 26 set assists, and Michi Prante was busy in the back row with 10 passes and eight defensive digs.
“At times we played good defense, serving was strong,” said Hite. “We need to find consistency on offense. We tried some new things offensively, and it showed me they had confidence.”
The girls participated in a triangular on Tuesday evening against Wallace and Hitchcock County. Results will appear in the next issue of the Grant Tribune-Sentinel.
Friday they are on the road again to meet up with Holyoke, Colo.
