The art department at Wallace Public Schools recently received two grants from the John Russell Applegate Foundation.
The first grant was for two new programs called Photoshop Elements and Photoshop CS5. These programs are very expensive, but allow students endless possibilities when working on photos or other graphic media. The students are putting this program to good use during the 2011-2012 school year. Already five seniors used this program in conjunction with the school’s cameras to create their names using everyday objects.
Other art classes are making use of this program as they explore Photoshop CS5 with the t-shirt making process and careers in graphic arts.
The second grant the art department received was for a new potter’s wheel. This is a great addition to the art room as many students love working with clay as they explore how to create vessels on the potter’s wheel. Students will explore ceramics as they make new objects, such as vases, cups, mugs, and bowls.
