The Nebraska Corn Board (NCB) in partnership with other associations will be promoting ethanol and corn usage over the next few weeks with events scheduled for the Nebraska State Fair and Husker Harvest Days.
State Fair
During the Nebraska State Fair, NCB will be hosting a question and answer session on ethanol, partnering with Aurora Cooperative, Bosselman’s Pump and Pantry and the Nebraska Ethanol Board to offer ethanol discounts and discussing the various uses of corn.
Harvest Days
On Wednesday, during Husker Harvest Days, the NCB in conjunction with the Nebraska Soybean Board, will hold a press conference to proclaim September as Renewable Fuels Month.
The NCB will also have the American Ethanol NASCAR Show Car and NASCAR driver, Kenny Wallace on site.
All the details on these events, along with registering to win a pair of Cornhusker football tickets, can be found at the NCB website www.nebraskacorn.org.
Use in California
The Nebraska Corn Board partnered with the Iowa Corn Promotion Board to tour various end users of Nebraska and Iowa corn in California. Tour stops included Wickersham Brothers Dairy, Hilmar Cheese, Sierra Grain / Nuwest Milling, and Port of Stockton where participants were able to see importing and usage of corn firsthand. Additionally, participants met with representatives of Harris Ranches and Propel Fuels to discuss issues around corn and ethanol usage.
NCB Co-hosts Trade Teams from China
The Nebraska Corn Board co-hosted two different trade teams from China. The first was co-hosted with AGP and brought in a trade team of representatives from COFCO, a major supply company in China.
NCB hosted a lunch for the team prior to visiting NCB board member David Nielsen’s farm.
Shortly thereafter the USGC led a team of Chinese representing various academia, trade and government agencies and again the Nebraska Corn Board co-hosted them during their stops across Nebraska.
The team met with NCB board and USGC board member, Alan Tiemann and Shelby, Neb. area producer Greg Whitmore. The latter team also met with members of the ProFarmer Midwest Crop Tour.
Kernels of Truth
According to the USDA, National Agriculture Statistics Service, Nebraska farmers are projected to harvest 1.6 billion bushels of corn, while nationally farmers will harvest 12.9 billion bushels.
According to a recent study conducted by INFORMA, corn price would be considered a statistically insignificant variable in determining what drives the food (consumer price index).
