The 66th annual reunion of the Watkins family was held Sunday, Aug. 14 at the Grant City Park with 34 members signing the guest book. Six states were represented.
Fried chicken was the main picnic offering, accompanied by many delicious pot luck dishes, desserts and homemade ice cream.
The group was entertained by the Prairie Pickers, a group of four talented men from Colorado, singing bluegrass classics.
The eldest member present was Howard Watkins (97 on Oct. 3) of Coos Bay, Ore.
The youngest was Jake Sexson of Grant, age 16.
The longest married couple present were Wayne and Barbara Aten of Goodland, Kan., celebrating 64 years together. The couple married the shortest time (with many happy years to come) were Tim and Kelley Morrison of San Antonio, Texas.
Coming the greatest distance were Dale and Bonnie Workman of Los Gatos, Calif.
After the dinner, Jim Jacobson led the meeting and read the minutes prepared by Nancy Sally. He talked about his recent visit to Nicaragua and the living conditions there.
Members visited, exchanged bits of news and family events and took pictures.
Bill and Priscilla Watkins missed the reunion this year because they are en route to Ireland and England to look up ancestors and relatives there.
