Johnston just out of medal contention at state golf PDF Print E-mail

Alex Johnston, Perkins County’s only state qualifying golfer, participated in the state tournament at Meadowlark Hills in Kearney on Tuesday, May 24. The weather shortened the tournament to one day, with participants golfing 18 holes.
First place was awarded to Mitchell Klooz, a freshman from Plainview, who scored a 72, and won a playoff against Calvin Freeman, senior from Humboldt-Table Rock-Steinauer, who also scored 72.
Johnston’s total of 82 (38-44) placed him in a tie for 17th place among the 98 contenders, missing a medal by one shot. Medals are awarded to the top 15 golfers.
“I am very proud of Alex,” said boys golf Coach Chris Mestl. “He played great on the first nine holes.”
