FSA Scoop...Aug. 1 is deadline for farm reconstitution
By Mary Karash
County Executive Director
Farm Service Agency, Grant, NE
A farm generally consists of tracts under common ownership and is operated by one individual or entity. If the farm does not meet this definition, the farm will be reconstituted.
Farms under separate ownership can be combined if the resulting farm meets the FSA “farm” definition by all owners who agree in writing and the land is under a lease agreement of at least one year. Prior to requesting a multiple ownership farm combination, please visit with the office staff.
The final date to request a farm reconstitution is Aug. 1.
With spring planting and tillage activities, please remain compliant with highly erodible land and wetland conservation (HELC/WC) provisions.
Consult with NRCS before conducting any drainage activities and report any new land that is to be broken out and request a determination of whether highly erodible lands or wetlands exist.
Failure to comply with HELC/WC requirements can result in ineligibility for multiple program benefits and/or assessment of payment reductions.
Also, Perkins County has been designated as an area for Swift Fox habitat so the assessment of having dens needs to be made prior to breaking out any sod or tilling the short grass areas.
Reminders: CRP producers, provide spray tickets for noxious weed treatments with dates of spraying. As you finish planting, please bring in your acreages and dates to meet program requirements.
