Softley honored at state fire school PDF Print E-mail

Donald Softley, chief of the Grant Volunteer Fire Department, was inducted into the Nebraska Fire School Hall of Fame during the opening ceremonies of the 74th Nebraska State Fire School on Friday, May 21.
Softley was inducted as the 44th Nebraskan in the 74-year history of the Nebraska State Fire School as a result of 11 years of service on the Nebraska State Fire School Committee.
Softley is a 33-year member of the Grant Fire Department where he has served the offices of secretary, president, ambulance captain, fire captain, assistant chief, and chief.
Additionally Softley has served as vice president and president of the South West Nebraska Mutual Aid District and as chairman of the High Plains Emergency Medical District Advisory Board for several years.
Previous state awards include the Ak-Sar-Ben Firemanship Award in 1984, Nebraska Emergency and Rescue Care Association EMT of the year in 1992 and Nebraska Critical Incident Stress Debriefing Peer Team Member of the Year in 1994.
