Organizers for the Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) mobile event in Imperial this summer got a big boost in their fund-raising efforts this week with a $10,000 matching grant.
The Southwest Nebraska Meals for God’s Children (SNMGC) will hold a FMSC MobilePack™ event in Imperial July 20-23.
FMSC is a non-profit Christian organization committed to feed starving children around the world. The goal of the event will be to package 200,000 meals for distribution throughout the world.
To make that happen, Dick Banks of Imperial, chair of SNMGC, said they needed to raise $48,000 with a goal of $52,000. This will pay for the food, supplies, transportation, etc., needed to package the 200,000 meals.
Halfway There
Banks said fundraising for the event has passed the halfway mark towards their goal.
This matching grant will go a long ways toward meeting that goal, he said.
The grant will be used for a dollar-to-dollar match up to $10,000, Banks explained. This gives people the opportunity to basically double their contribution to the event.
In addition to local support, Banks said they’ve seen a great deal of support thus far from other area communities.
Contributions made to FMSC are tax deductible since FMSC has 501(c)(3) status as a non-profit charitable organization.
Matching contributions can be sent to: Feed My Starving Children, P.O. Box 91, Imperial, NE 69033. People can note the event number, 1107-71, on their checks.
Volunteer Signup Soon
Banks said volunteers who want to help work at the event can sign up soon.
People interested in volunteering can contact Banks at 308-882-0397 or other SNMGC members James Marlatt, 308-882-6386; Paul Hickman 308-882-5607; or Rhonda Hickman,  308-414-1406.
People can also volunteer for the event and learn more about FMSC at the organization’s website,  www.fmsc.org.
