Honored Morningside athlete has Grant ties PDF Print E-mail

A former McCook High School athlete has earned post-season academic honors at Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa.
Cory Gaston is a 6-foot-3 junior guard for the Morningside men’s basketball team.
The McCook High School graduate was one of three Morningside players named as a 2011 Daktronics-NAIA scholar-athlete.
Gaston has a 3.67 cumulative grade point average (GPA) with a major in engineering physics.
Gaston played in 31 games this past season for the Iowa school. He started 12 games, and averaged 4.2 points per contest. He finished the year with 58 rebounds, 22 assists and 12 steals. He shot 35.8 percent from the field, hitting 44 of 123 attempts, including eight of 31 from three-point range. Gaston was a 68.8 percent free-throw shooter this winter, as he made 33 of 48 charity shots.
Student-athletes must be at least a junior in academic status and have a minimum GPA of 3.50 to be eligible for Daktronics-NAIA scholar-athlete honors.
Gaston is the grandson of Lois Gaston of Grant.
