On Tuesday, Feb. 16 the Cats traveled to Imperial for sub-districts to play the Broncos of Wauneta-Palisade.
The Lady Cats were ready to play, hoping to beat the Broncos one more time this season. Unfortunately for the Lady Cats, the Broncos had other plans. Both teams worked hard in the first quarter, but the Broncos led at the buzzer, five to nine.
The Lady Cats played the second quarter much the same way as the first. They tried to gain momentum, but they were plagued by fouls. The Cats headed to the locker rooms trailing the Broncos, 13 to 18.
After half, the Cats seemed unwilling to give up. Once again they tried to build momentum, but the Broncos matched them shot for shot. The cats were outscored by just three, increasing the Broncos lead to eight, 28 to 36.
In the fourth quarter the Cats tried hard to pull ahead, making the shots when they needed them. Unfortunately, they also started getting into foul trouble, and the Broncos made the shots they needed to extend their lead.
The Lady Cats season ended with a final score of 41 to 52.
Offensively, Harris led the Cats with 18 points (four free throws), followed by Hochstetler with 12 points. Gardner had (four free throws) eight points, Hild had two points, and O’Brien had (one free throw) one point.
Leading the team with assists were Smith (four), O’Brien (two), Hild (one), Harris (one), Hochstetler (one), and Hasenauer (one).
Leading the team with offensive rebounds were Harris (eight), O’Brien (five), Hochstetler (four), and Gardner (two).
Defensively, Harris led the Cats with three rebounds, one block, and six steals, followed by Gardner with four rebounds and three blocks, Smith with four rebounds and three steals, and Hochstetler with four rebounds, two blocks, and one steal. Hild had one block and four steals, O’Brien had three rebounds and two steals, and Hasenauer had one block and one steal.
The Season
The ladies had a good season, ending with a 12-6 record. The average number of points per game was 59.4.
Senior Shanice Harris led the team in points for the season with 234 (50 free throws), and senior Katelynn Hild had the most shots for three with 25 field goals for 75 points.
Leading the team with assists were seniors Laura O’Brien (71) and Katelynn Hild (69).
Leading the team with offensive rebounds were seniors MaKayla Gardner (72) and Shanice Harris (69). Defensively, our seniors Harris (88 rebounds, 12 blocks, and 40 steals) and Gardner (91 rebounds, 19 blocks, and 22 steals) led the way, with Hild (67) and O’Brien (53) leading in steals.
