State Technical Committee meeting to be held Feb. 22.
The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) will host the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) State Technical Committee meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 22, from 1-4 p.m., in room 397A at the Federal Building located in downtown Lincoln at 16th and O streets. This meeting is open to the public.
The USDA seeks input from the State Technical Committee on conservation program delivery in Nebraska. The State Technical Committee provides information, analysis, and recommendations to USDA on priorities and criteria for natural resources conservation activities and programs.
Although the State Technical Committee is advisory in nature, USDA relies heavily on their recommendations to manage natural resources conservation concerns across the state.
NRCS State Conservationist Craig Derickson said, “NRCS has established a technical committee to offer an opportunity for interested individuals and groups to advise NRCS on how best to locally implement conservation programs.
“The State Technical Committee helps USDA assure that financial and technical assistance is targeted to priority natural resource concerns in Nebraska and the conservation needs of people at all levels are considered.”
Items to be discussed at the meeting will include an update of Farm Bill conservation programs, identifying emerging natural resources concerns and program needs, recommend conservation practice standards and specifications, and a review of committee members’ activities to ensure state priorities are being addressed locally.
The State Technical Committee members include federal and state agencies, federally recognized American Indian Tribes, agricultural producers, owners and operators of nonindustrial private forest land, and other professionals who represent a variety of interests and disciplines in the soil, water, wetlands, and plant and wildlife sciences.
Individuals or groups wanting to become members of the State Technical Committee may submit a request that explains their interest and outlines their credentials for becoming a member.
Requests may be sent to: NRCS State Conservationist Craig Derickson, 100 Centennial Mall North, Federal Bldg., Rm. 152, Lincoln, NE 68508.
The Natural Resources Conservation Service is committed to making its information accessible to all of its customers and employees.
