|Comparison doesn’t apply in our county|
In response to the letter in last week’s paper comparing a murderous rampage in Arizona to a local election:
Ma’am that is absurd and insulting.
In no way should that ever be associated, and it borders a slanderous accusation.
The right to petition is guaranteed in the Constitution of the United States. (1st Amendment)
The gunning down of innocent people is condemned. (Nebraska Code 28-303,304)
The right to petition is exactly what the Founders wanted; they wrote it. The State of Nebraska has extended that right to elections, provided strict guidelines are followed. They were, and people had a choice at the polls. The true essence of a republic in its simplest form: Local elections.
As for honor and respect, I believe that is earned through hard work, honesty and ethical decision-making. Traits a lot of people in this county have. Traits you and your family have. Don’t throw that honor and respect away because of anger.
I, speaking for myself, and not part of any committee or group, forgive you for your comments. I hope that you, too, can let this go.
