With a relatively young squad for 2010-2011 wrestling season, Head Coach Dean Friedel and Assistant Coach Todd Ford, Sr., expect solid leadership from seniors Kyle Schulze, John Prante and Riley Kosmicki.

Schulze is a returning district champion who placed fifth at state last year. Kosmicki is unable to compete due to a shoulder injury, but remains dedicated to the team, continuing to attend practice and helping out where he can.

Juniors Ethan Behrends and Christian Miyamoto have been varsity competitors for two years and have made impressive gains in the weight room this past summer, which should carry over to the wrestling mat, said Coach Friedel.

The remainder of the team is mostly comprised of underclassmen, but some have varsity experience, and with hard work and willingness to learn, they should have some success this season, he added.

Returning letter winners are Austin Thelander, Trey Johnson, Kyle Schulze, Christian Miyamoto, Mark Hanson, John Prante, Ethan Behrends, Tyrone Summers and Vinny Ross.

Newcomers to the team include freshmen Garrett Toner and Michael Tucker, and junior Sean Farnsworth who recently transferred to the district.

This year’s lineup: Austin Thelander, sophomore, 103 lbs.; Garrett Toner, freshman, 112 lbs.; Trey Johnson, sophomore, 125 lbs.; Kyle Schulze, senior, 130 lbs.; Christian Miyamoto, junior, 140 lbs.; Mark Hanson, sophomore, 140 lbs.; Michael Tucker, freshman, 152 lbs.; John Prante, senior, 171 lbs.; Sean Farnsworth, junior, 171 lbs.; Ethan Behrends, junior, 189 lbs.; Tyrone Summers, sophomore, 215 lbs.; Vinny Ross, sophomore, 285 lbs.
