PCHS FCCLA members attend conference PDF Print E-mail

District 13 FCCLA Leadership conference was held at Mid Plains South Campus in North Platte on Wednesday, Nov. 17. Thirty-two members from Perkins County High FCCLA attended this conference with their advisor Mrs. Cathy Ochsner.

The theme for the conference was FCCLA...To Infinity and Beyond!

Tanya Metcalf was installed and served as District 13 Secretary/Financial Officer at this conference.

Rebecca Johnson competed in Junior Creed Speaking Contest and Hailey Sletten competed in the poster contest.

Vilja Juntunen, Perkins County High exchange student from Finland, presented three 30-minute break-out sessions to teach students attending the session a “house” dance routine.

Other break-out sessions students attended were presented by the Financial Fitness and Families First PEER Education State Officer teams. Marcus Garstecki from Mid Plains held a session on Ethical Implications and addressed ethical situations students might encounter in their personal lives.

The Nebraska State Patrol had a rollover simulator session conducted by trooper Carolyn O’Brien.

Students also heard speaker Kelly Rippen from Mid Plains Community college. Her talk focused on “Love What You Do!” She is the area director of recruiting and admissions for Mid Plains College.

Milt and Jan Bemis presented information on organ donation and told the story of losing their son Matthew and the gift he was able to give Lily from Arizona–a decision that changed the lives of both families. They encouraged students to talk to their families about their wishes concerning organ donation.
