The Wallace Wildcats competed in the Hayes Center Triangular on Tuesday, Sept. 14. The Cats first opponent was the Hayes Center Cardinals.

Wallace vs. Hayes Center

The Wildcats defeated the Cardinals in straight sets 25-21 and 25-11.

The Cardinals were ready to defend their home court, and the Lady Cats seemed a bit sluggish. The Wildcats made some good plays, but really seemed to lack intensity. In the end the Lady Cats did win in straight sets, but their play left fans wanting for more.

Leading the team offensively against the Cardinals was senior Shanice Harris (three aces) with 10 points, followed closely by senior Laura O’Brien with eight points (four aces). Senior Makayla Gardner (two aces) had four points, senior Paige Kerchal had three  points, and seniors Katelynn Hild and Whitney Smith and junior Brooke Hochstetler each had two points.

Leading the team with set assists was Hild with 13, followed by O’Brien with 11, junior Emily Hasenauer and Gardner each with one.

Defensively, Gardner led the team with nine kills and four blocks, followed closely by Smith with eight kills and one block. Harris had five kills, and Hochstetler had three  kills.
