|By petition Hoffert challenges Pankonin for commissioner seat|
By Jan Rahn
Well in advance of a Sept. 1 deadline, a petition to place a new candidate on the ballot for commissioner was received by the Perkins County Clerk.
Dave Hoffert’s name will officially appear on the November General Election ballot for Perkins County Commissioner running against incumbent Leon Pankonin in District 2.
Perkins County Clerk Rita Long said a petition with the required number of signatures to have Hoffert’s name placed on the ballot was received in her office on Monday, Aug. 23. The required 101 signatures were counted and confirmed by Wednesday, Aug. 25.
During the May primary, Pankonin’s seat was challenged by fellow Republican Matt Waitley.
Pankonin won the primary in May which advanced him to the November election.
No Democrats filed for the District 2 Commissioner seat, thus, Pankonin’s name was the only one which was to appear on the ballot—until the recent signature petition filed by Hoffert.
