|City proceeds to abate nuisances|
By Jan Rahn
From nearly 30 properties deemed nuisances in the northeast quadrant, there are only four that the Grant City Council needs to follow through on, which speaks very highly for the residents of Grant and pride in their town.
Council passed resolutions to move forward with the abatement process on each of the four properties during the regular city council meeting last week.
In early May, 48 letters were mailed to property owners/renters to start the enforcement process from a nuisance ordinance passed by the city in June 2009.
For the most part, property owners who received letters complied with cleanup requests.
There were nine on a list for council to take action on at their meeting Tuesday, June 22.
By meeting time, five of the nine properties listed on the agenda had complied with cleanup. Four others failed to meet standards of the West Central Nebraska Development District (WCNDD) enforcement officer, but it was obvious from comparison photos that owners/renters had made an attempt.
