The Perkins County Attorney’s office anticipates charges will be filed this week against two middle school students on an alleged drug deal the end of February.

The Perkins County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call from Perkins County Schools shortly after noon on March 5 regarding possible drug activity occurring on school grounds on a prior date.

According to Sheriff Jim Brueggeman, investigation by law enforcement revealed that marijuana was allegedly exchanged for cash between a 14-year-old male and a 12-year-old female on the south side of Perkins County Elementary School on Feb. 26 after the two students exited from the shuttle bus that travels between the middle school in Madrid and the elementary school in Grant.

Law enforcement personnel recovered less than one ounce of marijuana during their investigation and the marijuana is being held as evidence in the case against the juveniles, said Sheriff Brueggeman.

The sheriff’s office has completed their investigation, said Brueggeman. The matter has been referred to the Perkins County Attorney’s Office for filing of charges against both juveniles involved in the incident.
