The Wallace Lady Cats basketball  team enters the 2009 season with determination under the leadership of second year Head Coach Jennifer Koop and Assistant Coach Gregory Skeen.

“I am really looking forward to the season,” said Koop. “We have an experienced, well-balanced team this year. Offensively we are balanced with a solid inside game, surrounded by solid guards.”

“Our bench will be solid as we will again play an up tempo game.  We will take one game at time, and play with a lot of confidence and passion,” added Koop.

There are 20 girls out for the Lady Cats team this season, including 10 returning letter winners, three of whom are returning starters. The Wildcats hope to improve on their 8-9 record from the 2007-2008 season.

The Lady Cats’ returning letter winners are Jena Aylward (5’ 10” senior), Josi Hasenauer (5’ 3” senior), Tarassa Swedberg (5’ 7” senior), Katie West (5’ 11” senior), Arlana Whitson (5’ 1” senior), Annika Wickizer (5’ 3” senior), Shanice Harris (5’ 9” junior), Katelynn Hild (5’ 3” junior), Laura OíBrien (5’ 4” junior), and Brooke Hochstetler (5’ 11” sophomore).  These ladies provided significant contributions to the 2008-2009 season and the coaches expect their leadership to continue.  In fact, Coach Koop listed senior leadership as one of this team’s greatest strengths.

The Lady Cats’ first games will be on Friday, Dec. 4 at home against the Maywood Tigers, and Saturday, Dec. 5 at Wauneta-Palisade.

The Lady Cats look forward to an exciting year with lots of talent and experience.
