While feasting on the refreshments and offerings at local businesses during the open house tonight (Thursday), folks strolling the streets are invited to a “feast for the eyes” at Meadowlark Gallery in Grant. On display is a kaleidoscope of colors in the handmade creations by local quilters in the Quilted Leaf Quilt Guild.
As a perfect complement to the quilts, painted chairs and furniture from funky to folksy are on display, and available for silent auction. The chairs have been decorated by arts council and community members, who have graciously donated them to be auctioned. Proceeds raised will benefit the gallery and future arts council projects.
Review of 2009
Arts council members are pleased with the increased traffic through the doors this year. The shows, which change every month, have attracted an average of 150 visitors per month. 2009 shows have highlighted youth art, recycled art, selections from the art guild in Ogallala, carvings, local paintings and quilts, entirely by southwest Nebraska artists and artisans. Anyone who has missed out may view past shows on  the website,, a new site created and maintained by Aaron Turner of Deaver Computer.
Following the open house, the gallery will close for the winter months and the space will be used for practices for the dinner theater planned for spring of 2010.
The gallery will reopen in March when it celebrates Youth Art Month by featuring student art.
The arts council will continue to meet the second Thursday of each month, to plan the events for 2010.  The public is welcome to attend.
