Grant Volunteer Fire Department personnel responded with mutual aid to an early morning fire Saturday that engulfed Harchelroad Motors in Imperial.
The fire that began at about 1:45 a.m. destroyed the 74-year-old main street business, leaving smoldering rubble that kept a few of the firefighters at the scene for nearly 12 hours.
Nine firefighters with four pieces of equipment responded to the request for mutual aid when the call came in at 1:58 a.m., said Grant Fire Chief Wade Rahn.
According to the State Fire Marshal, the cause of the  blaze is undetermined and is still under investigation.
Destroyed in the fire was Harchelroad’s main building, office, parts shop and body shop on the east side of the 300 block of Broadway. The business also has a building across the street to the west that is a 120-car showroom, so the business can still operate even though the office equipment and paperwork were destroyed.
All of the company’s 48 employees were back to work on Monday.
