Perkins County girls’ golfers find their season winding down, with the final regular season scheduled meets behind them. The Hershey Invitational on Tuesday, Sept. 29 proved to be a successful event for the Plainsmen who took the gold with a season low score of 206. Three of the four team members placed in the top 10—Jeannie Kuskie placed first with a score of 45; Janet Kuskie third with 49 and Emily Kiolbasa finished fifth with 52, her first time in the top 10. Teammate Steph Reichert was just a few strokes behind with a 60 on the nine-hole event. “This was a great showing by the girls and a confidence builder heading into districts,” said Coach Troy Kemling. “It was special having three players medal in the top 10—we hadn’t done that in a couple of years.” Hershey Invite Team Results 1. Best of the West Senior Jeannie Kuskie qualified to compete in the Best of the West competition held in Gering on Wednesday, Sept. 30, finishing with a score of 101, and in 16th place out of 25 golfers. She did not make it into the top 10, but counts the experience as a positive one that will improve her game. “Jeannie actually hit the ball better than her score indicates,” said Coach Kemling. “She just couldn’t get the ball in the hole once on the greens and ended up with numberous three putts.”
