By Shari Friedel Tribune Staff The Perkins County golf team opened their season at the Bayard Invitational on Thursday, Aug. 27. The team was unable to post a team score, since only three Perkins County golfers were able to participate, but Coach Troy Kemling was pleased with the play of all three girls, saying, “The ladies had a very good beginning to the year at the Bayard Invite. It is always nice to play well enough at the first meet to come away with some hardware. Jeannie Kuskie finished in the fifth place spot with a score of 97 (46-51). Kemling said, “Jeannie played her first seven holes as well as I have seen her. She actually stumbled in with the 46 and that affected her as she began the back nine.” Sophomore Janet Kuskie came in at the 10th place position individually, scoring 107 (51-56). “I was happy for Janet as she was able to medal at a larger meet and did so right away,” said Kemling. “She played consistent golf for much of the day after starting out with a rough opening hole. This shows that she is becoming a good player, one that can forget about a bad hole and press on.” Teammate Steph Reichert scored a 127 (66-61) and continues to show improvement, said Kemling. She set a personal record low at Bayard. “All three girls learned that their short game needs to improve if they hope to improve as a team,” he said. Team Scores 1. Chadron 401 2. Bridgeport 436 3.
