On April 20, 2023, a group of students and their instructor Dr. Brad Ramsdale, academic lead, and associate professor of agriculture production systems from the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture (NCTA) in Curtis, visited the Henry J. Stumpf International Wheat Center at Grant to attend a Drone Workshop organized by Dr. Nicolas Cafaro La Menza, cropping systems specialist and assistant professor at the Agronomy and Horticulture Department of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL).

Students learned the key elements of drone operation and how they can be used in agricultural applications.

After presentations by Agronomy and Horticulture Department Graduate Research Assistant Luzviminda Ann Sazon and Digital Ag Extension Educator Dirk Charlson, NCTA students gathered outside with Crops and Water Extension Educators Samantha Daniel from Perkins, Chase and Dundy counties, along with Chuck Burr for live drone demonstrations and then practiced flying small drones themselves in the new shed at the Stumpf Center.

The event was co-sponsored by West Central Research Extension and Education Center (WCREEC), and Nebraska Extension.
